Mary A. O’Neill

O’Neill, Mary A. (Conroy) of Baltimore, MD, formerly of Apalachin, NY and South Boston, MA, passed away at the age of 83 on December 8, 2016.

Preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Annie Conroy, her brothers and sisters, Peter Conroy, Patrick Conroy, Helen Kennedy, and Eileen Campbell, and her husband of 48 years, William J. O’Neill. Mother of Mary Ann Shirven of Derwood, MD, William J. O’Neill, Jr. of Clovis, CA, and Nancy O’Neill of Baltimore, MD. Cherished grandmother of Christopher Shirven.  

Mary grew up in South Boston and graduated from South Boston High School in 1951. She went on to graduate from the Catherine Labouré School of Nursing in 1955. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Carney Hospital until 1967, when she left to be a full-time homemaker. With her family, she moved to upstate New York in the early 1970s. In addition to caring for her children, she volunteered for Meals-on-Wheels and participated in many Irish weekend gatherings in the Catskills. When her husband Bill retired, he and Mary spent winters in central Florida attending spring training baseball games and summers fishing at Black Lake near the Canadian border. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. 

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 20th at the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. The funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 21st at 10:00 am at St. Ann’s Church, Quincy, followed by burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
