Martin J. Burke (80) of Weymouth passed away peacefully November 22, 2015.
He was the loving father of Martin F. Burke and his wife MaryAnn of Quincy, John L. (Red) Burke and his fiancé Donna Cole of Weymouth, Robert B. Burke and his wife Patricia of Pembroke, Maureen E. Gilberto of Weymouth, and Amy L. Sullivan and her husband Keith of Auburn. Marty leaves thirteen grandchildren and two great grand-children. He also leaves his long time companion, Margaret (Peggy) Shields of Weymouth. He was the former husband of Claire L. Burke of Eastham. Marty was raised in Brighton, the son of the late Martin J. and Margaret Burke. He was predeceased by his siblings, Mary Dorsey, Edward (Red) Burke, John (Trigger) Burke and Margaret (Peggy) Sheppard.
Marty was retired after thirty years as a member of Ironworkers Local 7. He proudly served on the Executive Board for many years. Marty was an avid fan of Boston College football. In his leisure time he enjoyed golfing and taking cruises. Marty was happiest when spending time with his family, especially his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marty was a friend of Bill W. and had earned his 40-year medallion.
Our family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff of Seasons Hospice for taking such wonderful care of him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte. 18 opp. South Shore Hospital). A funeral mass will take place Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of MA/NH 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
