Martha Eacobacci

Eacobacci, Martha (Gerrior) of Buzzards Bay and Lakeland, FL, died February 21, 2016.

Martha enjoyed a carefree childhood with doting parents in South Weymouth MA when it was still a very rural setting.  She enjoyed the journey to, and extended visits with family in Nova Scotia.  As a young lady, Martha enjoyed participating in school musicals and was lead vocalist for a local 40’s era band in Weymouth.  Well known for her beautiful voice, she was the soloist at many weddings of friends and family over the years.  Proficient at playing piano and organ, she would happily provide the musical backround as her grandsons acted out impromptu entertainment for the family.  She also had a natural gift for scenic artwork, was an avid card  player, accomplished in knitting & crocheting, dog lover, bird watcher,  an enthusiastic flower & vegetable gardener, great cook, baker, and skilled at all forms of canning and preserving the wealth of her garden. Martha also had a special place in her heart for her many nieces and nephews. While raising her own children during the 50’s and early 60’s in Middleboro, Martha was active in the 4-H club and a member of the “Gay Fifties”.  Friendships with families in Middleboro were a constant source of joy and comfort for the rest of her life.    Married to Louis for 61 years, she was a devoted wife who enjoyed her role as business partner in several  endeavors. Louis and Martha made a solid team, applying their individual skills to each venture. The earliest business was “Ecco Poultry” in Weymouth.  Martha was never afraid to get her hands dirty and also learned to proficiently handle a gun. In 1947 Louis tossed a quarter in the air and Martha confidently shot a hole through Washington’s head!  The L&M team had successes with the “A&W Drive-in”,  “L&M Restaurant”, and her lifelong dream,  “The Carriage Shed” Gift Shop  in Wareham.  After retirement, she and Louis relocated to Florida.  She took pleasure in new friendships and opportunities to improve her newly learned golf game and hone her card-playing skills.  A lifelong fan of the Red Sox, she knew well the phrase ‘wait until next year!’ After Louis’ death in 2006, Martha lived independently at their Florida home until May of 2015 when she returned to Massachusetts to be closer to her children and grandsons. As her grandsons celebrated the birth of their children, Martha delighted in the fact that she had officially become a “Great” Grandmother.  In addition to the skills she passed on to her family, she will be fondly remembered for her quick wit, frugal habits, hearty laugh, and common sense wisdom for the ages.

Beloved wife of the late Louis Eacobacci.  Loving mother of Jean Akins of Wareham, James Eacobacci of Wareham, Diane Eacobacci of ME,  Edward Eacobacci of Buzzards Bay, and the late Mark Eacobacci.  Beloved grandmother of Michael, Stephen, and Thomas Akins.

Martha’s immediate family held a private service in her memory.
