Marsha Cook

Cook, Marsha (Zackiewicz) of Hingham, died January 6, 2018.

Marsha was born on May 13, 1921 and grew up in Hamtramck, Michigan. She then lived in East Lansing until moving to Hingham. She was very athletic, even into her late 80’s. She attended Murphy High School and was the captain of both her tennis and basketball teams. She graduated in 1939 and then later was inducted into her high school Hall of Fame. Marsha moved to Southern California during World War II for educational and economic opportunities. After studying at UCLA she moved back to Michigan where she married Dr. J. Maxwell Cook and became a step mother to three. She also had three remarkable daughters of her own. In time she became a single mother and worked fearlessly to raise her children. Marsha had a long career at Michigan State University, retiring as the Administrative Assistant to the Health Center. She spent much of her retired life traveling. Her favorite place to travel was the French Country Side because she loved the food and the wine and the scenery. Marsha will be remembered for her love of beautiful things. She especially loved fashion and hats. She will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Loving mother of Mary Martha Hudson and her husband Eliot of Lafayette, CA, Alice Cook and her husband Patrick Voke of Cohasset, and Julie Cook and her husband Eddie Miller Jr. of Milton. Cherished grandmother to Madeleine May of Brooklyn, NY, Kelly Voke of Chicago, Brendan Voke of South Boston, and Mackenzie Voke of NYC. Step-mother of Susan Freeman of Indianapolis, Louis “Fritz” Cook of North Carolina, and John Cook of Lansing, Michigan. Step grandmother of Elizabeth (Kerwin-Miller) Sytsma of New York. Aunt to Larry Zackiewicz of California.
