Marlene T. (McLaughlin) Flattich of Hull, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Sunday, January 23, 2022. She was 82.
She was born in Boston to Raymond O. and Mary E. (Wirth) McLaughlin and raised in South Boston. After graduating from South Boston High School, she worked in book preparation at the Boston Public Library. It was there that she met her husband, Philip W. Flattich who was working there as a messenger at the time. They settled in together in South Boston and then moved to Hull where they raised a family of 6 children and spent the remainder of their years together.
Marlene’s kindness, generosity, strength and faith were unwavering. She loved her family and would host a weekly Sunday dinner to bring everyone together. She had a keen interest in genealogy and was known as the family historian. In her spare time, she would travel to town halls and public libraries to track down anything she could find to piece together her family history. She also enjoyed dancing, knitting, attending her TOPS meetings and was known to be very crafty.
Beloved wife of 62 years to Philip W. Flattich of Hull. Devoted mother of Ann Marie Flattich of FL, Marlene Earl and her husband Gerald of Hull, Sharon Nickerson and her husband Thomas of Weymouth, Pamela Flattich of Hull, Cynthia Brown and her husband Roger of Hull, and Gregory Flattich and his wife Quenna Lalonde of Cambridge. Loving sister of Thomas McLaughlin and his wife Barbara AZ. She also had 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Sister in law of Diane McLaughlin and Elizabeth McLaughlin. She is predeceased by her brothers: Raymond McLaughlin, Jr. and William McLaughlin, brother-in-law, Robert Flattich and her sister-in-law, Veronica Tibets and her husband Harold.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, from 4-6 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Thursday, January 27, 2022, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Parish in St. Ann’s Church, Hull at 10:30 AM. Burial at Hull Village Cemetery.
