Mark W. Murphy, Jr.

Mark W. Murphy Jr., age 74, of Hingham, passed away February 26, 2018 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

He was the beloved son of the late Lt. Mark W. Murphy Sr. (BFD) and Helen (Cuddyer) Murphy. Mark was born in Boston’s South End, his family moved to Hyde Park where he lived and was educated; he was a graduate of Hyde Park High School. Mark joined the Navy and served on the USS Compton and the USS Yosemite Flagship. He was honorably discharged serving seven years. He then worked for the MBTA starting as a bus driver. He was working in the train yards as a motorman when he retired in 2000.

Mark was the devoted brother of Barbara and (Tom) Grimes Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Maureen and the late (Bill) Riley Sr. of Weymouth. He was the loving Uncle to 12 loving nieces and nephews and to 18 grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by a grand nephew and a grand niece.

On vacations Mark enjoyed his many trips to Disney with his sister and her family. He also visited all of the National Parks where he loved exploring and viewing the scenery. In declining health, he moved to Linden Ponds in Hingham, where he enjoyed meeting new friends. His family wishes to thank the support team at Linden Ponds for the excellent care he received as his health declined and also the amazing care given to him by the Beacon Hospice Nurses.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth at 10 AM. Burial to follow in The Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
