Mark G. “Mountain” passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, September 6, 2024. Mark was the loving husband of Tina (King) and proudest father of his 2 children, Lauren & fiancé Seth Gardner and Mark C. and his partner Sara Arruda.
Mark was an only child who happily embraced and truly became a part of his wife’s family and loved all his in-laws. He loved being Uncle Mark to his many nieces and nephews.
He moved to Dorchester from New Hampshire while in middle school and quickly learned that flannel shirts were not a way to fit in. Many of his friends were surprised to learn over the years that Mountain wasn’t just a nickname.
His love of music, guitars, sports, wrestling, and THC is what most people will think of first when thinking of him. Mark was an avid concert goer, and his love of music was shared with his closest friends who attended so many concerts with him over the years. But most importantly, Mark loved his family and friends. He opened his heart and home to many, so much so that pizza night Fridays were an infamous staple for his children and their many friends growing up.
As a custodian for 27 years in the Boston Public Schools, Mark most recently worked at the Carter School. He had a very special place in his heart for the many students he was fortunate to have connected with over the years. He would come home telling stories of their achievements and enjoyed popping wheelies or racing down the hallway with the students in the wheelchairs and playing his guitar for them.
Mark is predeceased by his parents, Maureen Mountain (Gallant) and Harold “Rusty” Mountain. He was a loving nephew and cousin to the Gallant, Grenier and McLeod family.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday, September 18th, from 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. Funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, September 19th, at 10 AM in Keohane Funeral Home, Quincy. Interment at Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Mark to the Friends of the William Carter School to support their music therapy programs. Donations can be mailed to the Friends of the Carter School c/o Marianne Kopaczynski, 41 Pershing Road, Framingham, MA 01702.
