Marjorie E. (Gavin/Francis) Cremin

Cremin, Marjorie E. (Gavin/Francis) of Quincy, was born on October 3rd 1936 to William and Florence Gavin. Sister to Florence (Tootsie) and brother William (Billy) and died peacefully on March 12, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.

Margie lived and grew up on Blue Hill Avenue in the Mattapan section of Boston. She attended St. Angela’s School, Cathedral High School and graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1954. She was a proud registered nurse, graduating from Boston City Hospital School of Nursing in 1957 and worked in the OB-GYN department at Boston City Hospital for decades. After retiring from BCH she worked as a hospice nurse and at the Hollingsworth House in Braintree. At her core she was a caregiver, and it showed throughout her life, beginning with helping her visually-impaired sister do homework, to giving medical advice to all her family and friends. Her Armory St. home was open to everyone – and those in the know knew there were always M&M’s in the breadbox.

She was a devoted mother to her three children. She supported them enthusiastically through trumpet lessons, dance lessons, drum lessons; and all the concerts and recitals and events. This support and enthusiasm continued on with her grandchildren. While babysitting, she created memories of handmade Play-Doh, homemade gingerbread cookies, and Fisher Price marching band fun, topped off with an endless supply of frozen zebra cakes.

Known as Nana by her grandchildren and many others, her caregiving heart poured into her family while hosting holidays, and creating family traditions; her Thanksgiving turkey gravy wasn’t ready until it was “Good enough to drink as a beverage!” The Francis family has been attending the Quincy Christmas Parade for over 40 years, which has included watching each of the grandchildren march, followed by homemade turkey soup and sandwiches at her home.
