Marjorie A. Gilligan (Abbott) passed peacefully at home on January 18, surrounded by her loving family. She was 94 years old.
Marjorie was the daughter of the late Elmont and Elizabeth Abbott and was a life-long resident of Weymouth. She was employed for many years at the Weymouth Savings Bank as their Customer Service Manager. Marge loved travelling with her group of friends, music and dancing. She also loved family vacations in New Hampshire with all of her children and grandchildren. More than anything, she loved her family.
Wife of the late Robert R. Gilligan, Marjorie is survived by her three daughters and their husbands whom she also thought of as her sons, Meg (Mary) Mongrello and her husband Joseph of Weymouth, Cathleen Murphy and her husband Eugene of Weymouth, Paula Wiles and her husband Kevin of Braintree. Adoring Nana to her grandchildren, Adam Griffiths of Weymouth, Kimberly Griffiths of Weymouth, Elizabeth Mongrello of Quincy, Stephanie Mongrello of Weymouth, Kerry (Murphy) Flynn of Weymouth, Kevin Wiles, Jr. of Braintree, Victoria Wiles of Braintree, a great grandson A.J. Griffiths and a great granddaughter Kaylin Flynn as well as a niece and nephews. She was the sister of the late Eleanor Maxwell-Newcomb and Dorothea Cronin and Elmont (Monte) Abbott.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday 8:00 -9:30 AM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home EAST WEYMOUTH at 3 Charles Street (corner of Charles & Middle Street). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Tuesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Albert the Great Church, Weymouth at 10 AM. Burial to follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Weymouth.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Guiding Eyes for the Blind (A nonprofit organization training and providing assistance dogs for the visually impaired), P.O. Box 97007, Washington, DC 20090-87007.
