Mario Romania, Sr. of Hingham passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022. He was 85.

Born in Gioiosa Ionica, Italy to Rosina (Argiro) and Rafaele Romania and raised in Italy. When he was 19 he moved with some family to the United States to start a new life. He entered an apprenticeship as a mason and construction worker and entered the union in 1958. After 20 years of working in the union, he started his own company, Mario Romania Mason Contractor. He worked hard and all the while was sending money back to his family in Italy. His world revolved around his family.

Mario might’ve seemed strict at times, but it was from a place of love. If you didn’t know him you wouldn’t know that behind a tough exterior was a warm, caring and compassionate heart. He was welcoming and personable and it showed through the many friendships he made in life. Especially at his home away from home, Marco Island, FL, where his friends affectionately dubbed him the “Mayor of Marco”.

Devoted father of Mario Romania and his wife Dulce of Hingham, Christine Romania of Hull, and Julie R. Grant of Mansfield. Loving brother of Arturo Romania, Marianna DeMasi, and Theresa Romania. Cherished grampy of Buseh, Mario Joe, Daniela, Patrick, David, Felicia, Joshua, and Matthew and great-grandfather of Nikolas, Mario A., Zoey and Maya.

He is predeceased by his siblings, Giuseppe Romania, Isabella DeMasi, Rocco Romania and Salvatore Romania.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday, March 13, from 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Monday, March 14, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.
