Gillis, Marilyn R. (Murphy) of Weymouth, passed in the presence of her loving family on August 29, 2021.
Marilyn was born in Newton to the late Marie and Joseph Murphy. She grew up in Weymouth and attended Weymouth High School. She was a loyal and devoted wife and mother and always selfless, humble and putting others’ needs before her own. Marilyn was a devout Catholic and daily communicant at St. Jerome Church in Weymouth. She volunteered at Father Bill’s, preparing meals with the prayer group at St. Joseph’s Church in Quincy. Marilyn was a member of the leadership teams of both churches, attending many retreats and very instrumental about praying over people.
Beloved wife of 56 years to the late Donald E. Gillis of Weymouth. Loving mother of Edward Gillis of CA, Noreen MacDonald and her husband Kevin of Weymouth, Michael Gillis of Weymouth and Peter Gillis and his wife Kim of ME. Devoted Nana to Lilian, Madeline, Patrick and Erin. Caring sister of Paula Fairbanks and the late Frederick of Hull, Daniel Murphy and the late Marie “Elaine” of Quincy, Kathy Traina and the late James of FL, Charlie Murphy and Jennifer of Weymouth and the late Joseph Murphy, Jr. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family and dear friends.
A very special thank you from Marilyn’s family to Father Jack Harrington, Father Huy Nguyen and all of the devoted caregivers that took great care of Marilyn over the years.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours 3-7 PM, on Thursday, September 2, 2021 in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Marilyn’s family would appreciate those in attendance to wear a face mask. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 3, 2021. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Marilyn’s name to a charity of your choice.
