Marie E. Welch

Welch, Marie E. (Gilmartin) of Scituate, originally Quincy, passed peacefully on August 30, 2024. Born on December 7th, 1926, daughter of the late James and Agnes (McCarthy) Gilmartin. 

Marie was all about family and friends and loved spending time with them chatting up a storm. She enjoyed cooking and traveling. She occasionally traveled to Ireland visiting family and spent many years taking an annual vacation to the Trapp Family Lodge with her husband Bob. Marie was an avid reader who could often be found with a book in hand and a smile on her face. She loved visiting the local library in search of her next read. She also relished her lunches with friends at the local Methodist church. 

Marie worked for many years as a bookkeeper, primarily at Cedrone Luber-Finer Sales Co. in Quincy. Marie was so good at her job that she was asked back, post retirement, several times into her 80s. 

Marie was a devout Catholic and an active parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Scituate for many years. She was a thoughtful, strong and independent woman who was always there for people. She was sharp as a tack well into her nineties and was very sweet and kind to those around her. She will be greatly missed. 

Beloved wife of the late Robert Welch. Loving sister of the late Francis, James, and Joseph Gilmartin. Cherished “cousin” of Bill and Pat McKinney. Also survived by her dear neighbors including Pat and Bernie Owens, Joan Powers, and her very good friend Cindy Trubiano. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet family and friends during the visiting hours on Friday 8-9:30 AM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, Scituate at 10 AM. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Scituate. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marie may be made to St. Mary’s Church, 1 Kent St., Scituate, MA 02066.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Cardigan Nursing Home for the wonderful care they gave Marie.
