Marie R. Coates

Marie R. Coates, 74, of Hingham, MA died on October 8, 2011 at Weymouth Healthcare Center. Marie was born in Amsterdam, NY on June 30, 1937 to Anthony and Eleanor Re and graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1955. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Education at SUNY Buffalo (Buffalo State Teacher’s College) in 1959, married in 1960, and taught elementary school in Rochester, NY for a few years before choosing to immerse herself in raising her children, homemaking, cooking and volunteering in school and community services, both in Rochester and then in Hingham, MA where she settled for the remainder of her life. Marie’s creativity and artistic talent influenced everything she did and her spirit for life was felt by her many dear friends with whom she loved to spend time playing tennis and golf, enjoying the beach and the outdoors, rooting for Boston sports teams, dancing, travelling and many other activities. She was a loving and giving mother, grandmother and friend and was happiest with her beloved dogs by her side. Marie is survived by her son, Todd Coates, his wife, Julie Trant Coates and their three daughters, Payton, Hannah and Charlotte of Terrace Park, OH; and her daughter, Elizabeth Coates Bunting, her husband, Michael Bunting and their two daughters, Sarah and Emily of Scarborough, ME. A Memorial service to celebrate Marie’s life will be held on November 12, 2011, 11 am at Pyne Keohane Funeral Home 21 Emerald Street Hingham.
