Marie G. Sullivan

Marie G. Sullivan, age 77, passed away peacefully August 4th.

Proud to be born and raised in Dorchester. She attended Saint Ambrose parochial school and Archbishop Cushing High School.

Marie enjoyed life, family, and many friends. Marie was always there to brighten the lives of others.  She will be fondly remembered for ‘wearing’ rose colored glasses and always seeing the glass half full. She lived a joyful life no matter what life threw at her.  She never said a bad word about any one, unless they were a real jerk.

Marie was known for her baking. Back in the day she would make the most delicious baked goods from scratch – chocolate chipper cake, halfmoon cookies, whoopie pies, and peanut butter balls to name a few of her (& everyone elses) favorites. She got a kick out of the fact that when she taught CCD her class was the only class to have perfect attendance all credited to having baked an irresistible treat.  We know she’s enjoying her sweets & chocolates in peace in heaven without anyone reminding her of her being diabetic.

The only thing Marie loved more than sweets is her family. Marie was the beloved wife of the late John (Jack) Sullivan.  Jack was a real funny guy who loved making people laugh and since Marie loved to laugh, they married right after she graduated high school.  Marie is survived by two daughters, who she consistently reminded she was so grateful to God to have given to her – Irene (Sullivan) Savage and her husband, David of North Grafton and Jill (Sullivan) McFarland and her husband, Kenneth of Weymouth. Besides her girls, Marie showed Motherly love to all her daughter’s friends. Everyone was always welcome in her home and Marie was always willing to help in whatever way she could. She was one of the best French braiders on the block.

Marie gave her love unconditionally and without measure. Cherished Grammy to her grandchildren, Jack, Nick, & Katherine Joy, who in her words ‘the sun rises and sets on her grandchildren’. She loved spending time with them whether it be snuggling and singing, admiring LEGO builds, listening to progress made in baseball, watching them on stage or learning a new tiktok dance from her recliner.  She celebrated them and their accomplishments – no matter how big or small.  She was the best Grammy anyone could ever ask for.

Marie had the best siblings, siblings who in her eyes could do no wrong, who she loved and adored fully – no matter how stubborn they could be because she knew she was just as stubborn.   She was so proud of the fact that her and her siblings never fought. They might get mad, but they never said anything they would regret and never held a grudge (for too long anyway).  Predeceased by her brother Lawrence Kessinger and her sister Irene (Kessinger) McCann, who we know greeted Marie into heaven with open arms.  Survived by John Kessinger of Halifax, Robert Kessinger of Hull, identical twin sister Marilyn (Kessinger) Smith of Woburn, and James Kessinger of Anguanga, California.  She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews who she loved dearly and will be remembered fondly as Aunt Marie.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Parish in St. Ann’s Church, Hull at 11 AM.
