Marie E. Egan

Egan, Marie E. (Garron), 89, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2013 at the South Shore Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born July 8, 1924 to Clarence and Emily Garron, and spent her early years in Vermont. The family moved to Roslindale, Massachusetts when Marie was nine. She graduated from eighth grade at Sacred Heart School, and then attended Roslindale High School, graduating in 1941. She moved directly into the working world, serving as a bank teller for the First National Bank of Boston for nine years. She joined the Old Colony Ski Club and there met Walter Egan, whom she married in 1953.

As the mother of six children, Marie was a full-time homemaker. She loved to sew and knit, and she volunteered for years as a first grade teacher in the religious education program and later in other capacities at the church of the Resurrection in Hingham, where she and Walter were faithful and well-loved parishioners for over 50 years. She was loved by all who knew her for her sense of humor, her cleverness, her readiness for adventure, and her selfless nature. 

She is survived by the late Walter J. Egan, and by her children Leo F. Egan and his friend Heather Latady of Dorchester, Sean M. Egan and his wife Sheni of Hull, Joseph W. Egan and his wife Pati of Hingham, Maureen E. Egan and her husband Tim Seymour of Rockport, ME,  Timothy P. Egan and his wife Bobbi Sue of Plymouth and the late Jerome D. Egan and Anne Marie Egan. Mother in law of Joan Egan of South Dennis. Sister of Joseph Garron of Norwood and the late Robert Garron. Grandmother of Cole, Michael, Emily, Kevin, Katelyn, Gabriel and Nadine.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-6 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH, 40 Sea Street (off RT.3A-Bicknell Sq.)  Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home on Monday at 10:45 AM prior to the Funeral Mass in Church of the Resurrection, Hingham at 11:30 AM. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.
