Marie D. Wilkinson

Marie D. Wilkinson, 96 of Quincy, died peacefully in her home, where she had lived for over 60 years, on June 18th, 2023. Marie was the wife of the late Joseph R. Wilkinson, Jr.

She is survived by her loving children and their spouses; Joseph R. Wilkinson, III, Susan (Susie) and Mark, MaryAnn (Mandy) and Steve, Andrew, and Tina and Dennis. Marie is survived by her grandchildren and their spouses; Jaime, Robyn, and Scott and Christopher (Bupples) and Cassie, and Kelly and Ashley.

One of Marie’s (Nana Marie’s) greatest joys were her great grandchildren; Zachary and Gabby Marie, Connor and Cooper, and Baby Girl C, who we are all anxiously waiting for! Mia and Jack and Charlie. Nana Marie’s grand and great grandchildren were her greatest love and gave her much joy.

Marie was a graduate of the Quincy City Hospital School of Nursing and took great pride in being a nurse. Marie worked for over 70 years, specializing in Geriatrics and loved her profession. Marie worked at the Presidential Nursing Home from 1967 to 2000 (33 years) and never called out or missed a day of work. When Marie left the Presidential in 2000, she was presented with a blanket that was embroider as follows: To the “Angel” of Presidential. Marie, we’ll miss you. Marie was the epidemy of what a nurse should be and had compassion and empathy for all she cared for treating her patients as if they were part of her own family. When she officially retired, in her early 80’s, Marie continued to volunteer at an animal shelter, a homeless shelter and at a nursing home. Marie always kept busy. Marie loved animals (dogs and cats), the beach (Nantasket beach was her favorite) and the sun. Marie would travel yearly to warm destinations with her friends, and her favorite vacation destination was Aruba.

One of Marie’s nicknames was “Jeepers Crow”. Marie would replace “naughty words” as she called them, with the phase “Jeepers Crow” hence her nickname. Marie was also known as Nana Marie to all who knew her. Marie was the essence of what a Nana is. Nana was the kindest and sweetest person who blessed our lives. Nana was an angel on earth and is now an angel in heaven. There is none who could ever be as special as Nana Marie and none who could be loved by all as was Nana Marie. Marie led a full life filled with love and laughter. At 96 years old, God knew that she was becoming tired and needed to rest, so he took her to heaven to be with all her friends, family and husband who were waiting for her. Nana, you will be missed beyond words but are waiting for the time when we can see you again. We love you!
