Marie Claire (Casey) Richard

Richard, Marie Claire (Casey). It is with heavy hearts that we regretfully announce after “91 Blessed Years” our beloved mother, Marie Claire (Casey) Richard, has passed peacefully on Sunday, February 2nd, 2014 in Quincy. Marie took great comfort being surrounded by her scriptures, and the adoring love of her family and close relatives.

Marie was welcomed to parents George Casey and Mary E. Casey on August 15th, 1922 in Brookline. As the middle child, Marie had two sisters, Betty Merritt and Joan Dosch.

After graduating from Brookline High School in 1940, Marie then went on to a successful modeling career within the New York City Fashion Industry and allied commercial retail houses. Upon her return to Boston, she continued her love for fashion by working for C. Crawford Hollidge and the Jayne Specialty Stores. Later in life, she returned to the work force by entering the banking industry; later retiring from the Milton Savings Bank.

Marie met the love of her life, Alfred “Dick” Richard when he was a USAF Service Lieutenant stationed in Boston. They were married among the spring flowers of California in 1944, and later returned to settle in Weymouth. Marie eventually moved to Braintree for many continued loving family years.

Marie is survived by her four children, Joan Callahan of North Carolina, formerly of Plymouth, Mark Richard of Quincy, Susan Carmichael and her husband Scott of Abington, and Casey Richard and his wife Marcia of Weymouth.  Marie always held a special place in her heart for her many grandchildren with special attention shown to her grandson Eric Cosman, who loved his grandmother so much. He adored her with his affection and generosity. Her special nieces were Jane Hamblin, Marybeth Nowell, and Valerie Tello, and also Joan Hand of Quincy, daughter Susan’s best childhood friend, who was fondly referred to as Marie’s third daughter.

A committed and devoted mother Marie lived to love her family, and was a part of all aspects of their lives. Marie was predeceased by her husband Alfred “Dick” Richard, who died in 1966. As a young widow, Marie always put her family first and worked hard to send her children to Archbishop Williams High School, Braintree. Marie was a lifetime member of Gold Star Wives of America and a long term member of the South Shore Hospital Senior’s Exercise Fitness Program. She enjoyed golfing, traveling, reading and was an ardent fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.  She will be missed, but never forgotten.

Our family would like to pay special thanks to the entire staff at The John Adams Healthcare Center in Quincy, Ma. for their incredible, attentive, and compassionate care.  Mom loved them all.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).  Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 8:15 AM on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 9 AM.
