Bernier, Marie C. (O’Brien) of St. Stephens, New Brunswick, Canada formerly of Boston and Hingham, April 7, 2005. Beloved wife of the late Sylvain E. Bernier and the late Lt. Cmdr. Alan H. Gunderson, USN. Loving sister of Betty Shaw of Hingham, John O’Brien of Hanover and the late Lt. Col. Eileen F. O’Brien. Also survived by 8 nieces and nephews, 7 grand nieces and nephews and several stepchildren. Marie was living in St. Stephens, New Brunswick, Canada at the time of her brief illness. She was formerly of Boston and Hingham, MA. She was a Medical Social Worker for the American Red Cross for forty years retiring in 1987. Her work took her around the world to Korea, Japan, Hawaii, and several other states. She continued to travel after her retirement and enjoyed several cruises. Marie was active in the Back Bay Association of Boston and the Friends of the Public Gardens in Boston. She was a 1942 graduate of Simmons College in the School of Social Work where she later earned her Master’s Degree.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM Monday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM. Visiting hours Sunday 2-5 PM. Burial in Milton Cemetery, Milton. Donations in memory of Mrs. Bernier may be made to the American Red Cross of MA Bay, PO Box 51547, Boston MA 02205-1547.
