Marian Hamrock

Marian Hamrock, 68, passed away on May 4th after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. “Originally From Dorchester,” she was the youngest of five children of her beloved mother Odrene Regan and father, John. She was an alumna of Girls Latin and Emmanuel College.

In 1985, she and her husband Jim moved to Hingham, a place that became her second hometown. For two decades, she was a 5th grade teacher at South Elementary in Hingham, where hundreds of students benefited from her bubbly demeanor, radiating positivity, and her unwavering love of every child that entered her classroom.

Over the course of her life, Marian made hundreds of friends. It was not uncommon for Marian to meet one group of friends for breakfast, a second for lunch, and then a third for dinner. Before being seated at any restaurant in Hingham, she had to stop by at least three tables to chat with friends and former students. She never forgot a face or a name.

Although she dazzled everyone she met, nobody worshipped her more than her husband, children, and grandchildren. Marian was married to the love of her life, Jim, for 41 years. In retirement, Marian and Jim were inseparable, traveling, meeting up with friends, and their favorite activity: being Nana and Bubba to their four grandchildren. She made her own children, Emily Hamrock-Zuares, of Cohasset, and Greg Hamrock, of Hingham, feel like the center of the universe and taught them through example the values of kindness, optimism, hard work, and above all, family. Her children-in-law, Dave and Melissa, were also crazy about Marian, who welcomed them each into the fold at first glance and loved them like her own.

Being in the presence of her four grandchildren, or “her babies” whom she cared for every Tuesday and Thursday, was her biggest source of pride and joy. Marian showered them with love, “on sale” designer clothes, over the top compliments, and positive life lessons. She could often be spotted walking around Southie with Harry, collecting shells on Cape Cod with Catherine, singing Old MacDonald with Juliette, or rocking Eddie to sleep on her shoulder. She and Jim would fearlessly take the whole crew to the Zoo, to children’s theater, and into the city on the Hingham boat. While their time together was brief, being loved by their Nana will be forever imprinted on their hearts.

She is also survived by her sister, mentor, and best friend, Sheila Wolf (James) of Hanover, as well as her two loving brothers, Dennis Regan (Sandra), of Norwood, and Robert Regan (Elizabeth), of Vero Beach, Florida, her devoted in-laws, dozens of nieces and nephews, and her adored great nieces and great nephews. Predeceased by her brother Jack (Eileen). Marian was the true heart of every Regan and Hamrock party.

Visiting hours will be held at Pyne Keohane Funeral Home in Hingham on Tuesday, May 9th from 4-8 PM, followed by a Memorial Mass at Resurrection Church in Hingham on Wednesday, May 10th at 10 AM.
