Maria T. (Carty) Meehan of Squantum, died on December 7, 2016, surrounded by her family. Daughter of the late Patrick J. and Mary Ann (Layden) Carty. Beloved wife of 62 years of the late Leo J. Meehan, Jr. Loving mother of Anne Marie Meehan and her wife, Gayle Feeney, of Lowell; Leo J. Meehan, III and his wife, Sara “Gigi” Meehan, of Cohasset; Deborah T. Meehan and her husband, Richard Murray, of Plymouth; Nancy J. Meehan of Squantum; Mary-Ellen Drinkwater and her husband, David, of Scituate; Gail F. Meehan and her wife, Paula Rooney, of Scituate; and Christopher R. Meehan of Boston. Grandmother of Zoe, Zach, Sally, Tucker and Abi. Great-grandmother of Parker. Sister of Rita Tomaszewski of Medford, and the late Gerald, Maurice, and Robert Carty, and Mary “Bertie” Marinelli. Sister-in-law of Evelyn Carty of PA and Vincent Marinelli of NH, and the late Grace and Jane Carty. Sister-in-law of the late Meehan family: Dorothy, Rita, Audrey, Bernice, Warren, Claire and Phyllis. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Marie was a 1940 graduate of Girls’ High School in Boston. After graduating from Boston Clerical School, she worked as the Executive Assistant to the Chief Administrator of Massachusetts Memorial Hospitals. After raising seven children, Marie went back to work in the Medical Records department at the Harley Hospital and at Milton Hospital retiring in 1987. She lived in Squantum for 57 years where she was an active parishioner at Star of the Sea Church. Marie was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club where she was the coordinator of annual fashion shows. She participated in the PTA of Squantum School where her seven children attended. Marie had a love of fashion, home decor, religion and education. In her retirement, she traveled with her family and fulfilled a lifelong dream of visiting Paris.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Tuesday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.
