Maria M. Moyer

Maria M. Moyer (Martinez) of Hingham, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on February 14, 2023. She was 94 years old.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter (first of 3 children) of the late  Edwardo and Louise Martinez.

Her father, a  professional musician, instilled a love of music in Maria at a young age which continued for her entire life.  This love is shared by her children and grandchildren.

While attending Philadelphia Bible School in PA, Maria met and married her husband, Edwin Moyer who was at that time attending seminary.  Later, she received her BA in education at Framingham State College, then earned her Master’s Degree in Library Science at Simmons College. She continued as a school librarian in Hanover, MA for many years.

Maria was a woman of many talents. She was organist and choir director at the First Baptist Church in Randolph, MA where her husband, the late Rev. Dr. Edwin Moyer was pastor. She also enjoyed arts and crafts, square dancing, and was an expert seamstress.

In later years, as a resident of Linden Ponds Senior Living in Hingham, MA Maria was active in many musical productions at the community, as well as participating in the choir and handbell choir at UCC in Norwell, MA. She continued with the Linden Ponds Handbell Choir until her passing.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Dr. Edwin H. Moyer, her daughter Joyce Ann, her brother Everard (Buddy) Martinez of South Carolina, her sister Delores (Lola) Weber of Chalfont, PA, her grandson Stephen Moyer of Plymouth, MA, and sons-in-law Peter Hultman of E. Weymouth, MA and Mark Lord of Plymouth, MA.

She is survived by her daughter Donna (Moyer) Hultman of East Weymouth,  son Lawrence Moyer and his wife Bernadette of Plymouth, MA, and daughter Judith (Moyer) Lord of Hanson, MA,  cherished grandmother of Daniel Moyer, Dorothy (Moyer) Hoffman, Brian Moyer, Michael Moyer, Daryl Moyer and Elizabeth Lord, and great-grandmother to David Hoffman and Brendan Hoffman. Maria will be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

She will be remembered by all who knew her of her talent, beauty and boundless energy.

Service is  at 11:00 AM on March 3, 2023 in the Derby Clubhouse at the Overlook Dining Room.

Reception to follow from 12:00:-2:00 in the Seasons Catering Room downstairs in the Derby Clubhouse.

Masks are strongly encouraged as this is a vulnerable population.

The attendant at the front gate will be happy to direct guests to parking areas and shuttle bus services to The Derby Clubhouse.

Private Burial will be at the Bourne National Cemetery on March 6 at 12:30 PM
