Margaret "Peg" "Hon" Rooney

Margaret C. "Peg" "Hon" (Corliss) Rooney of South Boston, died surrounded by the family she cherished on January 9, 2025. Daughter of the late Michael Corliss and Delia (Waldron) Corliss. The beloved wife of the late Frederick M. Rooney. Proud and devoted mother to Frederick "Buddy" and his wife Cheryl of Berkley and the late Cathy (Caputo) Rooney. James "Jim" and his wife Maryanne of Dorchester, Michael and his wife Valerie of Hingham, Thomas "Tommy" Rooney of Braintree and Susan Linehan Rooney of Quincy, Jackie Rooney of South Boston and Jeanne Noonan Rooney of South Boston, Paul Rooney of Boston, Mark and his wife Theresa of South Boston, Larry and his wife Beth of Milton, Joe Rooney of Dorchester, Jay and his wife Carolyn of Milton, and Chris and his wife Lisa of Milton, and the late infant son Charles Rooney. Cherished grandmother of 30 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Sister of the late Josephine O'Connor and her husband Fran, John Corliss and his wife Evie, Michael "Bernie" Corliss and his wife Rosanna, and Theresa O'Toole and her husband Tommy. Peg is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A daughter of Irish immigrants and child of the depression era, Peg was an incredibly inspiring woman, devoted to her family and her faith. She had a heart full of love and a soul full of compassion not just for her eleven boys but for all who were part of her life. Peg created a positive and nurturing environment for her sons who grew up with a strong foundation built with respect, values and personal responsibility. She was always there for her family and her community, offering encouragement, whether it was cheering at games or celebrating accomplishments. As her sons started families, that love and devotion continued for all 43 of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Peg's energy was boundless. She somehow found the time to enjoy volunteering and supporting the various youth sports programs, the Laboure, the Simon of Cyrene Society, Julie's Family Learning Center, St. Monica's Food Pantry and other community organizations. Peg always believed in her boys and that belief fueled their confidence and their drive. She stood by her boys when they faced defeat and disappointment and taught them how to move on. They are the men they are today because she was such a strong woman.
