Malachy T. “Mike”, Coghlan, Sr., of Brockton, formerly of Charlestown, Mattapan and Quincy, died at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center on August 27, 2008. He was 93. Mike was born in Newfoundland, Canada and raised in Charlestown where he graduated from Charlestown High School. He also graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in Civil Engineering. He served in the submarine service of the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mike worked as a building inspector with the City of Boston for many years and also operated his own business as an independent contractor. He was a summer resident of Brant Rock. He was the devoted husband of the late Margaret P. (Judge) Coghlan, the loving and supportive father of Barbara P. Coghlan of Quincy, Margaret “Fizza” Lake and her husband Leon of CO and Malachy T. Coghlan, Jr. and his wife Diane of WA and the loving “Poppy” to Kathleen Doyle of Millis, Karen Connolly of Hanover, Roberta Skinner of Quincy, John Lake of Charlestown, RI, Andrew Lake of Newton and eleven great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church 550 Washington St. Quincy on Tuesday at 10:00 AM. Inurnment will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston 637 Cambridge Street Brighton, MA 02135.
