Mabel J. Hajjar

Hajjar, Mabel  J. of Quincy, died peacefully in her home on January 24, 2014.  She was 90. 

Mabel was born on August 3, 1923 in Quincy, MA.  Mabel, wife of the late Ferris Hajjar, is lovingly remembered by her two sisters, Julia and Linda, both of Quincy and brother Sidney and his wife Evalynne of Milton. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews both in the U.S. and Lebanon.

In 1941, Mabel graduated from Quincy High School.  Seven years later, while in Lebanon, she met Ferris Hajjar and in 1948, they got married.  Mabel and Ferris then traveled back to the United States to start life as newlyweds.  In 1972, Mabel and Ferris opened the “Mae Fare,” a small coffee shop located across the street from the Quincy Shipyard, which served the needs of the shipyard workers.  In the early 1980s, after many years of serving her community, Mabel retired and devoted her life to her family.  Though she did not have children of her own, Mabel gave her time and love raising her many nieces and nephews.  Her love for family showed best in the kitchen, cooking Lebanese food.  Mabel will be remembered for her generosity and kindheartedness. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 3-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 550 Washington Street,  Quincy at 10 AM.  Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
