Dunphy (Hayes), M. Dolores, age 90, resident of Acton, and former resident of East Weymouth for 56 years, passed away peacefully on August 4 at her home. Born in Roxbury on August 31, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Ida (Ryan) and Michael L. Hayes, who relocated to MA from Newfoundland, Canada. Dolores grew up in Dorchester, attended St. Peter’s Elementary School, and graduated from Gate of Heaven High School in South Boston in 1950. Dolores wed the love of her life, Joe, in 1955, and they enjoyed nearly 64 years of marriage. After raising her daughter, Dolores worked at South Shore Bank/Bank of America in Quincy and Dedham before retiring in 1994. A parishioner of Immaculate Conception Parish in East Weymouth, she was a devout Catholic who found great comfort in her faith. Dolores was most proud of her beautiful family and enjoyed spending time with them. She adored her grandson Stephen and her great-grandson Wesley who stole her heart and gave her great joy. Throughout the years, Dolores enjoyed dancing, traveling, entertaining in her home, and visiting friends and family both near and far. Dolores was admired for remembering special dates like birthdays, anniversaries and the like. She was known for always staying in touch with those she loved, either through sending greeting cards, notes, or making regular phone calls. To many, Dolores was an inspiration as a role model of what a mother and wife should be. She leaves a legacy of love, kindness, and positivity which will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Dolores was predeceased by her soulmate, Joseph W. Dunphy, and her two brothers, James and Leo Hayes. Loving mother of Karen (Dunphy) Scalzillo and her husband Brian of Townsend, MA. Cherished “Gram” to her grandson, Stephen Scalzillo, his wife Allison, and her great-grandson Wesley of Iron Station, NC. She also leaves behind her sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear lifelong friends. The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the incredibly caring staff at the Assisted Living facility Benchmark at Robbins Brook in Acton who since 2018 have cared for Dolores as if she were part of their family.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home EAST WEYMOUTH at 3 Charles Street (corner of Charles & Middle Street). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Burial will be at a later date in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Weymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dolores’ memory may be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
