Lucy Kalaijian

Lucy Kalaijian (Siroonian) of Weymouth, passed away peacefully, at her home which she loved, surrounded by her loving family on July 4, 2023. She was 97 years old.

Born in Weymouth, Lucy was the beloved eldest daughter of the late Humpartzoom and Nazenig Siroonian. She was raised and educated in Weymouth, graduating from Weymouth High School.  Lucy earned her Bachelors Degree from Boston University.  She married the late Aaron J. Kalaijian and raised a family of three children.  

Lucy led a very full and rewarding life.  In addition to being devoted to her family, Lucy was a dedicated and talented teacher for 30 years, and a leader in her community.  

Lucy began her teaching career in Buffalo, NY in 1960, and continued teaching for the Weymouth System as a teacher of English and Business Education. She developed a specialized course – The Modern Secretary – for advanced business students.   Instrumental in establishing the National Honor Society for the Weymouth School system, she served as its advisor for eight years.  Upon retirement in 1989, Lucy began serving as a volunteer and became a lifelong member of the Friends of South Shore Hospital.  She was the editor of their Newsletter for 7 years and served as President from 1997-1999, after which she continued to serve as a Past President on the Friends’ Board at the South Shore Hospital.   As a retired teacher, Lucy enjoyed monthly luncheons for the retired teachers of Weymouth North and South who taught together during the 60’s 70’s and 80’s. 

Lucy enjoyed world travelling, winter months in Bonita Springs, FL, and cherished time spent with her children at their homes and summer home in Maine.

Loving mother of Karen A. Kalaijian Shaw and her husband David of Slingerlands, NY; Kristine J. Kalaijian Theroux and her husband Lenny of Bradford MA, and Michael A. Kalaijian and his wife Corrine of Abington, MA. Adoring grandmother to Zachary and wife Kimberly, Jonathan, and Elizabeth Kalaijian of Abington, and great grandmother to Lia and Gemma. Cherished sister of Carrie Alemian and Buddy Siroonian, both of Weymouth. Lucy will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends and her caregivers Pat Crooks, Holly Cicerone, PT and Kara Flaherty who provided exceptional, loving care in her later years.  

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday July 12th from 4-7 PM at McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday July 13th at 11 AM in McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main St. (Rt. 18 opp. South Shore Hospital). Weymouth.
