Her parents met at a silent picture show in Cohoes, NY, where her mother played the piano. Lucille later used her own talents as a piano player at Maude Hunt’s Dance School and as a piano teacher in Weymouth for over 25 years. If her friends or family could hum it, she could play it.

Born in East Orange, NJ, Lucille graduated from Weymouth High School in 1937 and married Raymond Geever in 1942. They lived in several states – CA, TX, PA and LA –before settling in Hanson, MA for 20 years.  She was a gardener, a seamstress, an investor, a story teller and above all a faithful Boston sports fan: Born in 1919, she spent 85 years screaming for the Red Sox before she saw them win a World Series.

Ever since she and her friends took a bus across the country in the 1930s, Lucille was an adventurous traveler, proud to have seen all 50 states, counting exactly 100 airports visited over six continents, making friends and pen pals across the globe. She loved to tell how she financed it all with piggy banks and cereal box tops, although she said this was an awkward conversation with the airlines once, when she inadvertently ended up in Las Vegas with her six year old granddaughter Alicia instead of her home in San Diego. Even as a senior citizen, she could not be slowed down, climbing Machu Picchu while men her age were felled with altitude sickness at lower levels. She was thrilled to be evacuated off of Ayers Rock in Australia by the Flying Doctors with a broken ankle.

Volunteering with libraries and helping the less fortunate were some of the ways she gave back. Her children remember their mother bringing in runaway teens and giving money to strangers even after her husband had been laid off. A brick at the Tufts Library in Weymouth memorializes her service. She was less generous as a Scrabble competitor and card player, a master of the two-letter word to cover a pink square and she firmly held the belief that it’s OK to cheat at solitaire.

Lucille will be remembered for her lively sense of humor, an entertainer who spread joy every day of her life. At 94, she was the life of the party at her granddaughters’ wedding in New Hampshire. She was always the last one to leave the dance floor.
