Louise C. (Cronin) Downey

Mrs. Louise C. (Cronin) Downey (81), of Weymouth, formerly of Quincy, passed away at South Shore Hospital on April 22, 2021.

Beloved wife of more than 51 years to the late Francis C. Downey. Born and raised in Quincy, she was a daughter of the late John and Gertrude (Fortier) Cronin. Mrs. Downey was a 1957 graduate of North Quincy High School, after which she went to work for AT&T for several years. She later started a new career, working for the Quincy Education Association until her retirement.

Louise enjoyed reading, watching movies and was a devoted New England Patriots fan. She loved being a grandmother and delighted especially in being a great-grandmother, cherishing the fun times shared with her growing family. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her. 

In addition to her husband, Francis, she was the loving mother of Michael J. Downey and his wife, Jessica, of Dighton, and the late Stephen E. Downey of Weymouth. Sister of the late Margaret Cronin. Devoted grandmother of Edward Downey and his fiance, Rianne Baker of Plymouth, Robert Downey of Quincy, and Callie Downey of Fall River. Proud great-grandmother of Cheyanne, Elijah, Brooke, Isaac and Abigail; and is also survived by extended family and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Tuesday April 27th at 10 AM  in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth. 

Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy. 

Normally, the funeral is an opportunity for the community to gather in support of one another. Although we cannot gather together with Louise’s family at this time, friends may still offer their support by sharing a special memory or message by clicking the link above.
