Lorin A. Lavidor of Milton, formerly of Quincy, died of cancer on Wednesday at the age of 54. Her husband and business partner Eric Berman, formerly of Salem, died in June 2000. She is the daughter of the late Nathan R. Lavidor and Mildred (O’Connell) Lavidor who were long time residents of Quincy. A funeral will be held at First Parish-Unitarian Universalist Church in Milton at 535 Canton Ave. on Saturday at Noon. Burial in Milton Cemetery will follow. Family and friends are invited to her late residence following the funeral and on Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 4 to 9 p.m. Lorin A. Lavidor was an avid movie buff, a life-long Sox fan, and a dedicated patient advocate. After graduating from Boston University in 1971, she taught English and Film at North Quincy High School in her hometown for ten years. In 1982, Ms. Lavidor joined her late husband Eric Berman, formerly of Salem, in running Eric Berman & Associates, one of the largest representative firms in New England for gift manufacturers. Her husband’s cancer diagnosis in 1987 helped steer her and him into new careers as patient advocates. They were members of the Stepping Stones bone marrow transplant support group at the Dana-Farber and also shared their experiences through the hospital’s One-to-One counseling program. In her role as Communications Coordinator of the New England Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, Ms. Lavidor wrote and organized educational materials to help cancer survivors and their families live with the disease as a chronic illness. Shortly after her husband passed away from non-Hodgekin’s lymphoma in 2000, Ms. Lavidor was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She made it a priority to educate her family, friends, and community about ovarian cancer prevention and detection. Her daughter Adrienne Lavidor-Berman of Somerville, sister Paula Campbell of Hull, sister Elise Lavidor of Charlotte, North Carolina, sister-in-law Marjorie Berman of Newton, and brother-in-law Ari Berman of Lexington will miss going to the movies with the best critic in town.In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the New England Coalition for Cancer Survivorship located at Natick Business Park, 6 Strathmore Road, Natick, MA, 01760.
