Linda Jean Shadrick

Hall of Fame wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Linda J. Shadrick, age 85, passed away on April 9, 2024 at The Dr. Ruth McLain Hospice Home in Braintree, MA following complications from cancer. For the past 13 years she lived in Abington, MA. Prior to moving to Massachusetts, she lived in Michigan where she was born and raised.

Born June 2, 1938 in Detroit, she is survived by her loving husband, Frederick “Fred” Shadrick of Abington, MA; son Matthew “Matt” Shadrick of Hull, MA; grandsons Owen, Benjamin and William and their mother, Jennifer of Hingham, MA; sister, Tonia Waters of Annapolis, MD and her adult daughters and their families. She is predeceased 20 years by her daughter, Hilary L. Shadrick, for whom she dedicated a major part of her life in care.

64 years ago, Linda met Fred Shadrick on the campus of the University of Detroit Mercy. From that day, they began a loving and dedicated journey together which included 62 years of marriage. She was Fred’s anchor and with him, they raised their family in the suburbs of Detroit, MI. Ultimately, they moved to Abington, MA to be closer to their son’s family. She was given the moniker, “GMa,” by her grandsons whom she adored with every ounce of her heart. Everyone loved GMa and she will be deeply missed by all.

Linda didn’t stop her educational journey after U of D. She received her master’s degree in education at Oakland University. After that she began a career as an elementary school teacher and worked in hospital administration while raising her two children. In 1983, Linda was also elected as City Commissioner of the town of Royal Oak, MI. For many years, Linda focused on the loving healthcare of her daughter and wellness of her son. She was an intelligent, kind and loving person. Her eyes sparkled when cast upon you and her sense of humor was unmatched. Chocolate and scratch tickets could really make those eyes sparkle!

An intimate celebration of Linda’s amazing life will occur on June 2, 2024, her 86 birthday. In lieu of sympathy gifts or flowers, please consider donating to the Humane Society. Her pets and animal friends loved her too.
