Martin, Lillian R. (Calhoun) of Quincy, passed away February 21, 2011 at the age of 100. Beloved wife of the late Charles H. Martin. Devoted mother of Patricia H. McGilvray and her husband Gerald of Squantum, Geraldine Dailey and her husband Jack of Squantum and Barbara J. Gherardi and her husband Edward of West Hartford, VT. Cherished Nana of Deborah McDonnell, Paul Dailey, Barbara Grenier, Diane O’Connor, Michael McGilvray, Christina Hazen and the late William Dailey. Great-grandmother of Maggie, Grace and Emma McGilvray, Caroline and Michael McDonnell, Hannah, Nicholas and Noah Dailey, John Grenier, Liam and Ciara O’Connor, Levi and Eric Hazen and the late Molly McGilvray. Loving sister of the late David, Joseph, John and Edward Calhoun and Dorothy Helms. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Lillian has lived in Quincy for most of her life, graduating from Quincy High School in 1928 and Quincy City Hospital School in 1933. Throughout her nursing career she worked as a head nurse at Quincy Hospital, a school nurse in New Hampshire and a Private Duty Nurse at Mass General Phillips House. She was also active in the community through the Beechwood and Squantum Community Centers, the Squantum Senior Citizens Group and the Senior Olympics. Lillian enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, bingo, singing and traveling to Europe, Ireland, Hawaii and many other beautiful locations. Her family describes her as a kind and loving person who was always ready for the next adventure in life. She can be well remembered by her tote bag with the large clock on the front of it. She will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Lillian may be made to Sacred Heart Parish, 386 Hancock Street, Quincy, Ma 02171 or the 1000 Southern Artery Senior Center, 1000 Southern Artery, Quincy, MA 02169. Lillian’s family sincerely thanks the staff at Pope Nursing Home for their loving and supportive care to both Lillian and her family during their time of need.
