Leroy A. Nowicki

LeRoy “Roy” Andrew Nowicki, loving husband and father, from Weymouth, passed away, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness at the age of 77.

Born in 1941 in Omaha Nebraska, Roy grew up on the farm, the youngest of 6 children. He left the beautiful fields of his home for the Navy in 1959 where he served aboard the U.S.S. Bainbridge as an electrician until his honorable discharge in 1965. He later settled in Weymouth and became a Master Electrician with IBEW Local 103 until his early retirement in 1995. Roy loved history and nature and had a deep passion for genealogy, often spending 12 hours a day on meticulous research to lovingly create a rich, vivid picture of his family’s past. Every piece was truly a labor of love for him.

He and his wife of 40 years, Joanie, enjoyed years of bird watching, road trips to Nebraska, bicycle riding in local parks, working in their yard, and especially their beloved dogs through the years. He was known for his quick wit and kept everyone laughing until the end.

Roy is predeceased by his parents Andrew and Marianna in 1940 and 1943 respectively and his adoring sisters Clara, Dorothy, Irene, and Bernadette (Birdie). Survived by his wife Joanie, his sister Loretta of CA, and children Cori (Bryan) Anderson of Whitman, Timothy Nowicki of Weymouth, Judy (Michael) Manning of Monson, Vicki Congdon of Port Crane NY, Wendy (Dan O’Rourke) Nicholson of Cape Coral FL, and Robyn (Art) Reining of Christiana PA as well as his 16 grandchildren: Shane, Christopher, Carli, Ian, Paris, Tamara, Chad, Carrick, Cody, Aislinn, Linnea, Miranda, Ethan, Alexandria, Nathalie, and AJ and 2 great grandchildren Kacey and Michael, as well as his faithful companion: a husky named Manny. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at South Shore Hospital for their excellent and compassionate care and especially Roy’s cardiologist of many years Dr. Peter Hoshino.
