Meehan, Leo J., Jr. of Squantum, died peacefully on October 30, 2009 in Quincy. Son of the late Leo J., Sr. and Mary Ellen (Warren) Meehan. Beloved husband of 62 years, to Maria T. (Carty) Meehan. Loving father of Anne Marie Meehan of Lowell, Leo J. Meehan, III and his wife Sara “Gigi” of Cohasset, Deborah Meehan and her husband Richard Murray of Cohasset, Nancy Meehan of Squantum, Mary-Ellen Drinkwater and her husband David, Gail Meehan and her partner Paula Rooney, and Christopher Meehan; all of Scituate. Brother of Bernice Gallagher and Phyllis Doyle; both of Quincy and the late Dorothy Lydon, Rita Huss, Audrey Scarry, Claire Pastor Doyle and Warren Meehan. Grandfather of Zoe, Zach, Sally, Tucker and Abi. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Leo was a resident of Squantum for 50 years. He was a long time parishioner of the Star of the Sea Church in Squantum, where he sang in the choir and was a member of the Holy Name Society. Mr. Meehan served 39 months during WWII in the US Eighth Army Air Force with the 446th bomber group assigned to the 885th chemical company. Leo worked for the United States Public Health Service for 40 years at Logan International Airport’s US Public Health Station and retired as Officer in Charge of the New England region in 1986. Leo enjoyed bowling, gardening, travel, golf and cooking. Leo will be remembered most for being a loving husband, father and grandfather. His family was the most important part of his life. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Monday from 4- 8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15AM on Tuesday, prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church at 10 AM. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy. Donations in memory of Leo may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, MA Chapter, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
