Gudmand, Leo Erik “Lee”, 76, of Hingham formerly of Jamaica Plain, died suddenly Friday, March 17, 2006 in Venice FL. Loving husband of Helen L. (King) of Hingham and the late Thelma E. (Hanson). Beloved father of Kristine and her husband Daniel Coughlin, Erik, Caryl and her husband Brian Sullivan; all of Hingham, Peter and his wife Lynn of Concord and Susan and her husband Kevin Mahoney of Plympton. Beloved step-father of Pamela and her husband Dennis Halloran of AL, Gary King and his wife Janis of TX, Deborah Gudmand of Rockland and Johannah and her husband Randy Phillips of AL. Loving brother of Edith Wiedemann of ID and Judith Patterson of CA. Loving Papa to Ane Marie, Kevin & Michelle Coughlin, Steven, Kristopher & Karen Gudmand, Jennifer & David Sullivan, Elizabeth & Christian Gudmand and Kelsey & Patrick Mahoney. Loving step Papa to Wendi Young, Jason Parrish, Whitney & Aaron King and Abigail Phillips. Adoring great step Papa to Marissa & Adam Young. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Also survived by many relatives in Denmark. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Visiting Hours in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.) Thursday from 4-8 PM. A Memorial Service celebrating Leo’s life will be held in the Hingham Congregational Church, 378 Main St., Hingham Friday at 12:30 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Mr. Gudmand may be made to the American Cancer Society S. Reg. Ctr., 1115 W. Chestnut St. Brockton, MA 02301 or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Central New England, 101A First Avenue, Ste. 6, Waltham MA 02451-1115. He was a 50 year resident of Hingham where he raised 5 children with his late wife, Thelma (Hanson) Gudmand. He was a former Hingham Yacht Club member for many years, and was a Hospice volunteer, a Life member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, member of the Viking Club of Braintree and a longtime member of the Hingham Congregational Church. Leo attended Boston Architectural School and was a draftsman by profession. He held various positions, such as Vice President of Construction and Engineering for Mister Donut, President of Seaview Associates, and National Construction Manager for Howard Johnson’s. Leo was an active hiker, sailor, and world traveler, who was known for his quick wit and keen sense of humor. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Leo was blessed with a second love when he married Helen King in 1991. Combined they were blessed with 9 children, 17 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Together they have traveled extensively. He recently pursued his Danish roots, and in 2001 they took the entire family, 24 in all, over to Denmark to meet their relatives.
