Lawrence D. Knox

Knox, Lawrence D. “Larry” of Hull, formerly of Raynham, passed away at home surrounded by his family on December 3, 2015.

Son of the late David and Jeanette (Hardy) Knox.  Larry is survived by the love of his life of 11 years, Jeannette Spencer of Hull, his son, Adam Knox of Boston and love of his life, April Zelesnik of Cleveland, his daughter, Trisha Hellen, her husband Patrick, and his cherished grandson Liam of Canton, and former wife Nina Knox of Taunton.  Dear brother of John Knox of Middleboro, Sharon Abraham of Pennsylvania, and Richard Knox and his wife Naida of Gardner. He was the loving uncle of Marietta Nelson and Sarah Abraham.

Larry was a 1969 graduate of Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School. Larry was employed at SRC Medical in Hanover, MA for close to 30 years.  Up until his death, he was the Manager of their machine shop.  Larry’s passion was for working with anything mechanical.  He could fix just about anything that required knowledge of mechanical engineering.  This included overhauling engines and generators to fixing a bobbin case in Jeannette’s sewing machine.  He loved his job and was proud of the items that he either designed, drafted, or helped to maintain.  He had pride in his trouble shooting skills and believed that he had finally gotten to a point in his life where he had accomplished most of his career goals.

Larry’s other passion was boating and the ocean.  Life on his houseboat provided not only a home for three years before meeting Jeannette, but a way of life that provided joy, excitement and a comradery with some of the most heartwarming folks you could ever meet.  One of Larry’s life goals was to wake up to the ocean every day.

He had an attraction to the ocean.  Not a lake or pond, but the unpredictability of the ocean and respect for its power.  He wasn’t one that enjoyed gardening, mowing lawns and especially raking up leaves, but give him the chore of painting the bottom of a boat or repairing anything that had to do with his 42’ houseboat and he was at home.

Larry was also passionate about cooking.  During their entire relationship, Jeannette always bragged about never having to cook a meal and being treated to coffee every morning at the bedside.  Up to a few weeks before his death, he enjoyed cooking a turkey dinner for friends knowing that it may be his last chance to do so.

He loved traveling with Jeannette and took many trips up and down the east coast from Peaks Island, ME to the Florida Keys, and annual trips to their house on Hird Island, GA, their home away from home.

He enjoyed the many boating communities he was involved in including his long term membership at the Nantasket Beach Salt Water Club, the Back River Yacht Club, the Commodores Club, Captain’s Cove, Town River and Hird Island Association.

He enjoyed his role of running the senior luncheon at the club the last few years, and with Jeannette at his side it was always a great success.

Most recently, Larry was a recipient of the Hull Hero of the Year Award for saving a friend’s life who was in cardiac arrest by administering CPR while on a boat.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-7PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. Funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday at 7PM in Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, Hingham. Cremation will follow.
