Lamont (Monty) R. Healy, of Duxbury died July 30, surrounded by family. He was 87.
Monty loved spending winters in Cocoa Beach, Florida, with his wife of nearly 50 years, Grace E. (Morong) Healy. They frequently visited their daughter, Emelie A. (Healy) Crumbaker, her husband, Peter, and grandchildren Jackson and Dean in Seattle. He and his daughter Erin C. Healy used to enjoy the horse races at Saratoga Springs, and his son, Edward (Ted) C. Healy, and grandchildren Dillon and Maeve enjoyed his company rooting for the Boston sports teams. He is also survived by his brother Bernard E. Healy Jr. and his wife, Julie, of Jupiter, Florida. Monty was the third of three sons born to Bernard E. and Emelie (Marchant) Healy of Weymouth. He is predeceased by his brother Edward (Ted) M. Healy and his wife, Nina, of Shrewsbury.
After serving as an officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in post-war Korea, he began his lifelong career as a land surveyor. Upon retirement, Monty combined his surveying and deed researching skills with his love of American history and traced the original Pilgrim land grants through the generations to the present. He wrote numerous articles on the subject for the Duxbury Clipper newspaper, and collected the articles in a book entitled, “Duxbury’s Pilgrims and Their Lands.” His essay “Duxbury’s Early Land and Leaders” appeared in “Duxbury, Our Pilgrim Story,” a book co-published by the Duxbury Rural and Historical Society and Duxbury 2020, an organization established to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims landing in Plymouth. Monty served as its past president. He was chair of the board of trustees of the Duxbury Free Library. Monty was bigger than life, always optimistic, and generous and supportive to family and friends. He was a man about town, always stopping to converse with people he knew. His hearty laugh, big heart, and passion for life will be missed by all who knew him.
