Kenneth F. Mccarthy

Mr. Kenneth F. “Ken” McCarthy, 65 of Hingham, died on September 18, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Lynn. Devoted father of Lauryn of San Francisco, Deven of Boston and Allison of Hingham. Loving son of the late Eugene and Mildred (Doherty) McCarthy, and dear son-in-law  of Geraldine (Devine) McKenna of Prince Edward Island, Canada. Cherished brother of John of Carmichael, CA, Kevin of Wayland, Jane of Hanover and David of Carver. Caring uncle to 12 nieces and nephews.

Ken exuded joy and laughter wherever he went.  He loved sports and was a talented basketball player and golfer. Much of his free time was spent on the fairway at the South Shore Country Club or on the basketball court, many times playing with friends ten years his younger. He had an innate ability to relate to people of all ages.

In 1967 Ken caught a viral form of Red Sox fever which would span decades. He was a founding member of the “K-Men”, the devout fan group who posted the frequent strikeouts of Pedro Martinez on the back wall of the Fenway Park bleachers.

A graduate from Xaverian Brothers High School and attendee of Boston College, Ken embarked on a lifelong career as a telecommunications engineer. His career began at AT&T and culminated at UMass-Boston. He was passionate about his work and built not only strong professional relationships with his colleagues, but true friendships wherever he was employed.

One was fortunate to be a friend and blessed to be a member of Ken’s family. Some say he had the heartiest laugh they’ve ever heard. Even those with only brief encounters, cite Ken’s remarkable zest for life and contagious energy. His commitment to family was unparalleled and his character and goodness will live with us and through us forever. Family and friends will dearly miss his wit and laughter. He was truly one of a kind.
