Kathleen M. Thornley

Kathleen M. (Grady) Thornley, “Kathy,” a cherished mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on December 31, 2024.

Born in Somerville on May 6, 1959, she was the daughter of the late Roberta J. (Gomes) Grady and the late John F. Grady. Kathleen was raised in Weymouth and was a proud graduate of Weymouth South High School. Throughout her life, Kathleen embraced a variety of roles with grace and enthusiasm. She dedicated many years to her career, working diligently as a payroll clerk, a secretary in the real estate industry, and in food service.

Kathleen's most treasured role, however, was that of a mother to her son, John Grady Thornley, and his wife Sarah, of Pembroke. John truly was her pride and joy. She was a loving sister to Debbie Bachmann and her husband Bob of Westfield, Jackie Filiault and her late husband Andrew of Keene, NH, and Kelly Sullivan and her husband Charlie of Kingston. Although she was predeceased by her sister Diane Carter and her parents, Kathleen’s spirit will be carried on through the many nieces, nephews and family who adored her.

Kathleen had a passion for life that was evident in her many interests. She found solace in the companionship of her various cats over the years, especially her most recent buddy, “Randy.” Her love for all animals was boundless. Music was a constant source of joy for Kathleen. She was an avid reader, with a particular fondness for Stephen King’s novels. She cherished her camping trips to the White Mountains, where she could immerse herself in nature and tranquility. She also enjoyed gardening and taking care of her house plants. Kathleen had a fondness for good food, particularly enjoying her favorite pizza from Lynwood or Poopsies.

She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

A private Celebration of Life will be held for Kathleen’s family and close friends.

In loving memory of Kathleen, please consider a donation to the MSPCA, 350 S. Huntington Ave, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.
