Kathleen R. “Renie” (Sinacola) Coletta of Braintree passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, January 6. She would have celebrated her 84th birthday on January 22.
She was born in Boston to Michael J. Sinacola and Margaret M. (Kellett) Sinacola. Renie, the nickname given to her by her older brother Ralph, grew up in Jamaica Plain, graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Boston, and began working at the First National Bank of Boston.
She met and married Paul J. Coletta, Sr., in 1961. They began their married life in Germany, where Paul was stationed in the Army. Upon returning to the US, they moved to Quincy and eventually settled in Braintree in 1967. While raising her three children, PJ, Bobby, and Joanne, Renie managed to carve out time to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work from Curry College. Her career included working with children that had sustained traumatic brain injuries.
In 1992, Renie received her favorite nickname, Mimi, when she became a grandmother. Hands-on and active in their raising, Mimi poured her love into Sarah, Rachel, Emily, Paul, Christina, and Luca. They were the lights of her life, and she often mentioned this was her favorite time of life. Loving, intelligent, caring, witty, selfless, and beautiful, Mimi cherished her family and friends, and they returned that affection. She was a relentless caregiver to those she loved and, at times to strangers in need.
In addition to watching her grandchildren grow, her greatest pleasures in life included reflective time at Sunset Lake in Braintree, reading, traveling, enjoying her Havanese Bella, and going to the casino for fun. She was a wonderful cook that poured love into her favorite dishes, including delicious ravioli, meatballs, and sauce.
She will be remembered for the twinkle in her beautiful eyes and the love she shared with so many.
She was the beloved wife of Paul J. Coletta of Braintree and loving mother of Paul J. “PJ” Coletta, Jr., and his wife, Diane, of Weymouth, Robert P. “Bob” Coletta, and his wife, Becky, of Pembroke, and Joanne Coletta-Levine and her husband, Barry, of Hull. She was the proud Mimi to Sarah, Rachel, Emily, Paul J., III, Christina, and Luca. Sister of Ralph Sinacola and his wife, Maureen, of North Attleborough, the late Margaret “Peg” Farretta and her husband, Bob, Mary F. “Murph” Carr, and Elizabeth Pacella. Sister-in-law of Diane and Helen Coletta, both of Quincy, Margaret Coletta and Alice Coletta both of Braintree, and predeceased by brothers-in-law Lawrence, Alfred, Gerard, Edmund, and Robert Coletta and sisters-in-law Florence Coletta and Mildred Coletta. She also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday from 3-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte. 18 opposite South Shore Hospital).
Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9 AM prior to the Funeral Mass at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, Braintree, at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Rock Ridge Cemetery, Sharon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
