Kathleen M. “Kate” Murray

Kathleen M. “Kate” Murray of Hingham, MA passed away peacefully at her home on January 10, 2016 in the presence of friends and family. 

She courageously fought a very long battle with cancer and her dear friends and family helped her through her lengthy illness. She was born on November 26, 1952 in Yonkers, New York and lived in the Bronx as a child. Her family moved to Massachusetts and she attended schools in Westwood, Wilbraham and Hingham. She attended Regis College then transferred to Boston College where she earned a degree in Economics and Business Law in 1974. She went on to graduate school at the University of Southern California at Los Angeles. After teaching Economics for one year at St. Mary’s high school in Brookline, she began a career in Radio and Television working at several stations in Boston including WROR,  WFXT, WXKS and WGBH. She did news as well as commercial voiceovers and hosted live segments of the Channel 2 Auction. Later she worked as the administrative head of a nonprofit charity. She continued her voice work as a volunteer reader for the Talking Information Center. In 2009, Kate was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer and underwent four surgeries along with countless chemotherapy sessions over the past 6 1/2 years, all the while maintaining her enthusiasm for life despite great physical suffering. 

She leaves and is grateful for a large group of friends and family throughout Massachusetts, the US and Canada, all of whom loved her very much. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM. Cremation will follow. 

Donations in Ms Murray’s name maybe made to the Hull Seaside Animal Rescue or the Scituate Animal Shelter or any medical facility doing research on stage four colon cancer.
