She was an active member of the Beechwood Knoll P.T.A. and a devoted, life-long member of St. Ann’s Parish in Wollaston. As Kay Smith she was often seen in the stands cheering for her future husband, first baseman Jay Desmond, and the Fore River Shipbuilders Team. Kay and Jay loved travelling, the ocean, riding in convertibles, and most of all their children. To her grandchildren she was affectionately known as “Grandmum,” and will always be an inspiration to them. She loved to entertain and welcomed everyone into her home. Holidays and family were very special to her. Anyone who met her was immediayely drawn to her warmth. She was genuinely involved in other people, a great listener whom many people sought out for her sage advice. People formed an instant connection with her. She was strong-minded with an intuitive ability to understand what you needed, whether it was a kick in the pants or a pat on the back. She had a passion for living and brought true joy to so many.
