He was the adoring husband to Dorothy L. (Schlosky) Ryan. Karl's role as a father was one he embraced with his whole heart. He was the loving father of Christopher T. Ryan and his wife Danielle of Seattle, WA, Elizabeth M. Gagnon and her husband Greg of Derry, NH, and Karl J. Ryan III and his wife Kristin of Rockland. His guidance and wisdom were the cornerstones of their lives, and his legacy will live on through them.
The title of grandfather was one Karl wore with immense pride. He was the cherished grandfather of Joseph T. Gagnon and William D. Gagnon of Derry, NH, and Liam M. Ryan of Rockland, MA. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he relished every moment spent with them, imparting lessons and laughter in equal measure.
Karl's extended family was vast and full of love. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Jeanne Schlosky, and a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews, all of whom felt the warmth of his generous spirit. Though he was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Mary Reilly and Margaret Kennedy, as well as his siblings-in-law, Theodore and Elizabeth Schlosky, Joseph and Rita Chalifoux, Vivienne and Charles Begin, Thomas Kennedy, Gerard Reilly, and Edward Wilkins, the memories they shared will continue to bring comfort to the family.
Karl's dedication to his country was evident in his service as an Air Force veteran, where he earned the title of Airman Second Class and served as a military policeman. His commitment to service extended into his civilian life, where he worked for several years as a Chief Assistant Court Officer in the State Senate at the State House in Boston, retiring in 2002. His work ethic and sense of duty were unparalleled, and he was respected by all who worked alongside him.
Beyond his professional life, Karl was an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoyed watching and coaching soccer, sharing his passion for the game with young athletes and instilling in them the values of teamwork and perseverance. He was also a fervent fan of the New England Patriots, never missing a game and always ready to cheer on his team with enthusiasm.
