Garrity-Barnett, Karen M. of Quincy, OFD, died December 6, 2020.
Karen adored animals and took care of the feral cats while working for Amtrak. She proudly worked there for many years and her coworkers became part of her family. She became certified in ASL so she could better communicate with deaf passengers at work. She loved the water and being outdoors and was a member of the Dorchester Yacht Club for 18 years. She enjoyed traveling, taking trips to Africa, Europe, and all over the world. Karen was always humble, but she received scholarships while attending Cardinal Cushing in South Boston, Wellesley College, and MIT. She had a warm heart, was caring, beautiful, and smart. She was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed.
Daughter of the late Edward and Catherine (Murphy) Garrity. Beloved wife of 20 years to John “Johnny” Barnett of Quincy. Loving step mother of Séan and Clióna. Cherished sister of Joanie and Jean Garrity of Cincinnati. Loving step grandmother of Kiera, aunt of Jason Garrity and cousin of Jay Garrity. Also survived by all of her brothers and sisters at Amtrak, her extended Barnett family, and all of her many close friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 4-6 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY and will also be live streamed for those who are not able to physically be there. To view the live stream, please visit this page on Friday and feel free to leave an online condolence for her family. Cremation will follow. A Celebration of Life will be held in late Spring. Karen’s family strongly wishes that no flowers be sent and instead, donations if you are able may be made to MSPCA, Attn: Donation, 350 S. Huntington Ave., Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 or a small act to your local shelter.
