Karen L. Reed, Phd.

Reed, Karen L., Ph.D. of Quincy, formerly of Pelham, NH passed away on October 27, 2010. Beloved wife of Andrew West. Loving mother of Alexandra, Cameron, and Harrison. Cherished daughter of Marsha Ramalho and her husband Bob of Barnstead, NH and Charles Reed and his late wife Charlotte of Windham, NH. Loving sister of Stacy Gilmore of Groton. Granddaughter of Ida Southworth and Gladys Hesson, both of Dracut. Karen is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Karen received her B.S. from University of New Hampshire, her M.S. from University of Delaware, her doctorate from University of Florida, and post-doctoral work at University of New Hampshire. She was a respected associate research professor at Boston University, managing a research lab and teaching a pharmacology class. She authored many publications in leading peer-reviewed scientific journals and received numerous awards at scientific conferences. Karen found her soulmate in Drew and with him had the children that were the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. She was profoundly curious about the world around her. Karen’s embrace of the outdoors was a lifelong passion. Her generosity and selflessness were boundless. She always found the humor in life – even when the clouds drew near. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a gathering on Saturday from 1:30-3:00 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, Quincy followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 PM.
