Justin Leo “Steve” Stevens

Justin Leo “Steve” Stevens of Holbrook died peacefully on April 12, 2013 in Albany, NY following a brief illness.

He is survived by his daughter Lee Marie Stevens (John Pizzi) of Hingham and her children Michelle and Marc Sulprizio; his son Kevin Justin Stevens (Laura) of Cropseyville, NY, and their children Bridget and Morgan; his daughter-in-law Nicole Stevens of Hingham and her children Andrew, Preston and Jared.  He is also survived by his sister Constance “Connie” Mills (Don) of Naples, FL.  Justin was the son of the late Justin Leo and Margaret (Farrell) Stevens of Boston and was predeceased by his beloved son Andrew Preston Stevens of Hingham in 2007 and his sister Imelda Kinney earlier this year.

Justin was born and raised in Boston where he attended Boston Trade High School and Northeastern University.  He was a proud Navy veteran who served his country with honor during the Korean War.  Having seen the world as a sailor, Justin embarked on a career devoted to the shipbuilding industry where he designed and drafted the mechanical systems for a variety of commercial and naval vessels as well as the first generation of nuclear submarines.  The shipyards and bases where he worked include Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut, Bath Ironworks in Maine and General Dynamics at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy where he spent 25 years as a supervisor of design.  In the final years of his career, he was employed by the Department of the Navy in South Boston and participated in several sea trials of newly commissioned Navy vessels built in Norfolk and San Diego.

Justin was a man of great intelligence and quick wit.  His children and their mother, the late Patricia Stevens, are ever grateful for the summer paradise he provided at Popponessett Beach. He was blessed to have had a lifetime of friendship and support from his brother-in-law Don Mills as well as his children, who ensured he spent his final years in comfort.  We will miss his mischievous smile, learned much from his relentless pursuit of perfection, and trust that he is now at peace.
