Judith Langis

Judith (“Judy”, “Jude”) Langis of Hingham, MA, peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones after a brief illness Saturday, February 17th, 2024, at the age of 74.

Judy was born on August 27th, 1949 to Vincent Langis and Helen Langis Rethman in Dorchester, MA. She is survived by her two sister’s Ginny Murray and Elaine LaCoursiere and as well as her large extended family, including many adoring nieces, nephews, and cousins. Countless were touched by Judith’s free spirit, magnetic energy, and deep devotion. She committed her life to finding and expanding her family and community. In her youth, she traveled throughout Canada, Ireland and Europe discovering her roots and later developing a dedication to genealogy. Judy had a profound understanding of and an undeniable magic with children. She used these gifts to earn a master’s degree in early childhood development at New York University and in her years as a preschool teacher on Toronto Island and in Manhattan.

Judy also had a natural instinct to heal. She studied osteopathy and built a massage therapy practice during her more than 30 years living in her Manhattan apartment and on Shelter Island. In her final years, she retired to Hingham, MA to be closer to family. There she spent her retirement reading, doing crossword puzzles with her cousins, and socializing with her World’s End book club and neighbors. She loved all the family animals, especially the dogs who she treated with a special kindness. She will be remembered for her intelligence, intuition, and as a loyal confidante. Most of all, she will be remembered for all the laughter.

A public visitation will be held at McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, 809 Main Street, SOUTH WEYMOUTH, MA 02190, on Sunday, February 25th from 2-5 pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks to consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
