Judith A. Byrne

Judith A. (Fagan) Byrne, lifelong resident of Weymouth, died peacefully on May 20, 2013, with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 67. 

Beloved wife of 41 years to John R. Byrne of Weymouth. Devoted mother of David J. Byrne of Weymouth and Steven J. Byrne of Quincy. Cherished grandmother of Johnny Thomas Byrne. Daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (McBride) Fagan. Loving sister of Reginamaria “Rusty” Fagan-Brown of Rockland, Nancy Hilliard of KS, Patricia Burke of NH, Joseph Fagan of FL, Paul Fagan of FL, Kevin Fagan of Weymouth, Thomas Fagan of Weymouth, Michael Fagan of ME, Peter Fagan of Hanson, Lawrence Fagan of Weymouth, David Fagan of Canton and the late Christopher, Robert and Francis Fagan. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. 

Judy started her nursing career as a candy striper at the South Shore Hospital while attending Weymouth High School, Class of 1963. After graduating from Catherine Laboure School of Nursing in 1966, she worked at the hospital in the operating room. In 1970 she graduated from the Carney Hospital School of Anesthesia and worked for South Shore Anesthesia Associates as a nurse anesthetist, again at the hospital until she retired in 2001. Upon retiring, she went on to volunteer for Old Colony Hospice and also achieve her certificate in American Sign Language, leading to more volunteer opportunities. Judy was an avid tennis player and a 25 year member of the Weymouth Club. She also enjoyed walking. She will be remembered as a wonderful woman of strong faith who was always willing to lend a hand. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital)  Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, tax deductible memorial contributions may be made to The PEO Foundation, which sponsors scholarships for women’s education, and sent to Sandra Emler, Treasurer, Chapter AD PEO, 3 Button Cove Road, Hingham, MA 02043.  Judy delighted in helping other women pursuit their dreams for education.
