Joseph E. Wilkins

Mr. Joseph E. Wilkins of Weymouth passed away suddenly in his home on February 19, 2025. He was 43.

A beloved member of the Weymouth High School community, Joe had a long and meaningful connection to WHS, having graduated as part of the Class of 1999. After completing his studies at Brown University, he returned to his roots and began teaching in the Math Department at WHS in 2003.

Joe's dedication to the community was evident in everything he did. He was passionate about his students and teaching math and computer science. During his tenure, he coached both the Math Team and the High School Quiz Team. As a committed member of the Weymouth Educators Association (WEA), Joe served as a past President and was always advocating for his colleagues and the profession. For the last three years, he held the role of Math Department Head, where he continued to make a lasting impact on both his department and the entire school. Joe was also one of the founding members of Seeking and Striving to Prepare Children (SSPC) who centered all of their work in supporting children and families in the Weymouth community.

He was boundlessly curious, always mid-pursuit of knowledge about nearly any subject (the number of browser windows he had open at any given moment was terrifying). He was also endlessly kind, warm, welcoming, and funny, and his ability to connect with others and make them feel at home was unparalleled. He had wide-ranging interests and hobbies including but nowhere near limited to the Silmarillion, science fiction and fantasy, linguistics, Magic the Gathering, dinosaurs, comics and graphic novels, trivia both live and online, cute unusual animals, Supernatural, the Fast and the Furious franchise, Friday afternoon outings with colleagues, game shows from almost any decade, bowling, going to Patriots and Red Sox games, and above all, spending as much time as he possibly could with the people he loved, including on Great Fridays, as host of an annual July 3 party, and co-host with beloved friend John Shea of the annual Christmas Movie Marathon.

Son of the late Elizabeth Wilkins.

Beloved husband of Bonnie Andrews.

Brother of Wayne Galvin and his partner, Karah Barry of Fitchburg, and the late Michael Wilkins. Uncle of Wayne Galvin III and Julia. Brother-in-law of Laura Andrews and her husband, Paul Coverdale of New York. Son-in-law of John and Judith Andrews of Weymouth. Beloved cat dad to Jean Grey and Franklin Richards.

Also survived by many beloved extended family members, friends, colleagues, and students.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday 2/28/2025 from 3-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).
