Joseph T. Sardina age 86 of South Weymouth passed away Dec. 31, 2012. 

Beloved husband of Jennie M. (DeToma) Sardina.  Devoted father of Joanne M. (Orleans) Kokoliadis and her fianc’e Kevin Whitley of Whitman.  Cherished grandfather of Richard J. Orleans and his wife Jeannine of Weymouth and Michael J. Kokoliadis of Whitman.  Loving godfather of Linda Ahronian of Holliston.  Son of the late Mary (Runci) and James Sardina, Sr.  Brother of James Sardina Jr. and the late Frank Sardina, Ruth Sarro and Rose Degnan.   Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. 

 Joe was born in Boston where he lived for many years until moving to Weymouth in 1954.  He was a devoted husband to his wife Jennie.  They were married in 1948 and would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Jan. 25, 2013.  

 He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as Fireman First Class on the Battleship USS Iowa BB61 during World War II.  He worked at General Dynamics Shipyard.  He was a truck driver for White Rock Beverages and also for Jenkins & Simmons Transporatation in Abington until 1989 when he retired.  After retiring he worked part time as security guard for Apollo Security.  In his younger years, he enjoyed horseback riding and summering at the family cottage on the Weweantic River in Wareham.  For many years he was an avid bowler.  In 1967 he appeared on the Channel 5 Saturday morning Candlepin Bowling Stars TV show.  He also enjoyed bowling with the Knights of Columbus, St. Francis Xavier Church Bowling League.  He enjoyed playing Bingo and traveled many times to Las Vegas, Atlantic City & Foxwoods Casino.  He also enjoyed working for hours in his yard.  Nothing was more important than his family and his two grandsons were his pride and joy.  

 Funeral from the McDonald Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main St. (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hosp.) Tuesday at 9:00 A.M.  Funeral Mass to follow in Saint Francis Xavier Church, South Weymouth at 10:00 A.M.  Relatives and friends invited.  Visiting hours Monday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M.  Interment will be at a later date.  

 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St. Watertown, MA. 02472.  See www.McDonald-FuneralHomes.com for directions and online condolences.
