Joseph R. “Joe” Day

Day, Joseph R., 87, died suddenly August 20, 2013 in Delray Beach, FL, formerly of Boston and Brockton. 

Son of George E. and Mary (Gorham) Day and last survivor of fifteen children. 

Drafted for military service during World War II while a student at Boston Commerce High School, he served in the U.S. Army in both the European and Pacific Theaters and was awarded a Bronze Star Service Medal.  He was a former member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard.  Retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 25 years of service.  

He is survived by his sons, Charles (Phyllis), Donald and Allan, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his step children Katherine Carton-Horne, Thomas Horne, E. William Horne, Honour Horne-Jaruk, Barbara Horne-Stead, Suki McDonough and Irene Russo.  He was predeceased by his wives Adeline (Martel) and Katherine (Dullea) and his son, Stephan.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital)  Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9 AM on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, 234 Pleasant Street, Weymouth MA at 10 AM. Burial in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.

In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Joseph may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
